Community Proposal to Save the Khyber Building Going to Council
What: Members of the press are invited to a presentation of a plan submitted to regional council for a revitalized Khyber Building. Over the past year Friends of the Khyber (FoK) and The Khyber Centre for the Arts have worked with respected and knowledgeable arts partners, architects, engineers and real estate specialists to develop a viable plan to save the Khyber Building at 1588 Barrington Street. Regional Council will consider the plan within the coming weeks.
When: Thursday January 14th, 7pm
Where: Halifax North Memorial Library (2285 Gottingen St, Halifax)
Who: Friends of the Khyber will be joined by the following speakers:
Joel Plaskett, Dartmouth-based musician and producer
Robin Metcalfe, long-time queer activist and current Director/Curator for the Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery
Emily Davidson, queer, feminist artist, whose work was exhibited at The Khyber Centre for the Arts.
Friends of the Khyber is a collection of individuals who are organizing to champion and defend the rich history and significance of 1588 Barrington Street. We believe that Halifax deserves a cultural and creative hub in a publicly accessible, community owned and operated Khyber Building.
