The Khyber Building holds a special place in the hearts of many LGBTQ Nova Scotians.
The Turret, on the Khyber’s third floor, was the first community run gay bar in the province and a hub for LGBTQ activism in the 1970s and 80s.
Last summer we came together to save our beloved Khyber Building. This October we will present a proposal to city council for a viable arts and community hub located at 1588 Barrington Street.
In the meantime it’s the Summer of the Khyber #sotk2015 and we want you to come out and show your Khyber Pride… during Pride!
Gather in front of the Khyber/Turret to watch the Halifax Pride Parade with other LGBTQ Khyber Friends and allies! Let’s show the city what this building means to our community!
- Date: Saturday July 25, 2015
- Time: noon
- Location: In front of 1588 Barrington Street
Members of Friends of the Khyber (FoK) will be on site earlier to stake out and hold our spot. Some chairs will be provided for elders. Friends of the Khyber (FoK) will provide signs and sign making materials and other goodies! Wear your #khyberforever, Turret or other Khyber swag.
